Drilling is a mechanical cutting process used to create circular holes in a material by machining. The hole is called a bore. A distinction is made between blind holes and through holes. Core holes are used to cut threads into these holes.
Core holes have a specific dimension, tailored to the thread to be cut. These drills are also called core drills. In the individual

The corresponding core hole dimensions can be found in the tap tables. These dimensions must be observed at all times when drilling threaded holes.

Short twist drills have a rake angle (also called helix angle) of 27 degrees, a point angle between 118 and 135 degrees, and a cylindrical shank. The Type N version is suitable for materials with normal chip removal. Depending on the manufacturing process, a distinction is made between roll-formed and ground twist drills.

You can find further specific explanations on the use of twist drills in the drill dictionary or in our drill blog . Enjoy reading!
